Murfreesboro is the geographic and population center of Tennessee. The community is situated within a day's drive of 75 percent of the nation's markets and only minutes from three major interstates as well as the Nashville International Airport, the Murfreesboro Municipal Airport and the Smyrna Airport. Murfreesboro is the home of Middle Tennessee State University, the largest undergraduate university in the state with over 24,000 students. Over the past few years, Murfreesboro has grown at a pace that is over five times the national average, and for good reason - quality of life. The county seat of Rutherford County, Murfreesboro is located at the geographic center of Tennessee, approximately 35 miles southeast of Nashville. With a population of 100,000, it is the sixth largest and one of the fastest growing cities in the state with a vibrant and rapidly expanding retail trade base.

Rutherford County's retail trade base is made up of over 350,000 people. At its center, Murfreesboro has developed into a retail destination attracting shoppers from a 10-county region. Part of the reason for this phenomenal growth is the close location to major Interstates - Interstate 24 runs directly through the city and Interstates 65 and 40 are just a few minutes away. In addition to residential growth, the city has experienced considerable commercial and industrial development during the 2000’s. This non-residential development is expected to continue for the next several years.
